Performance

1. Monitoring and research on environmental resources

  • Rapidly distributing new agricultural technology and information by using mass media: 1 per day
  • Research on the quality of agricultural water : find out the relations between the cultivation year of greenhouse soils and NO3-N contents in surface underground water
  • Appropriate volume of fertilizer by type of soils : diagnose proper volume of fertilizer in consideration of NH4-N nitrogen contents in soils
    • - Ordinary field: 12.0, Sandy field: 17.3, Unmature field: 15.3 kg/10a

2. Develop the management technology of low applying nutrient solution for establishing the environment friendly agriculture

  • Improve the cultivation method for after-crops of garlic and onion and application method of nitrogen fertilizer : achieve normal harvest when only 50% of additional manure is applied (5.5 kg/10a) with no drooping even though no base manure is applied
  • General control over nutrients for rice culture in environment friendly agricultural area: Gimhae, Sacheon (INM, IPM)
    • - Improved effect: reduce COD in river by 19 - 43% and increase of income by 6%.
  • Improve the trial volume of lime by implementing simple pH measuring
    • - Volume of trial lime (kg/10a) = -191 x (pH of the soil) + 1,233 (r = 0.903**)
    • - Treatment of damage from excessive lime : improve the pH to 7.2 by 0.4. and reduce EC to 0.83 dS/m by 13%)

3. Recycling useful byproducts in agriculture purpose

  • Effect of the use of shell lime and expansion of its supply
    • - It contains 56.2 % of alkaline contents
    • - Reduces cost for abandoning waste to sea and replaces limes by 25%
  • Recycles sawdust when livestock waste is made into manure
    • - Reduces ammonia gas by 50% and annual production cost of manure by 6.5 billion won
    • - Shortens the manure production period by 16%, thus making the additional value of 30 billion won annually
    • - Generates the sawdust by 140 thousand ton and replaces the water adjustment material with the sawdust by 22%
  • Develop the microbe Bacillus Subtilis LHY201 which facilitates the compost of the manure and reduces the bad smell of manure
    • - It is the unreported bacteria which generates 5 fiber soluble enzymes and lives at 50 °C
    • - Reduces the ammonia gas by 79% and makes short the manure production period by 30%
    • - Uses the bioengineering technique to disintegrate the waste resource and to reduce the bad smell and to purify the waste by using enzyme

4. Monitor the abnormal symptom on rice leaf (damage from ozone)

  • The symptom was reported by farmer located in Donghae-myeon, Goseong-gun in July 5, 2000
    • - The abnormal symptom has been broadcasted on MBC and KBS in the 6th and 11th of July
  • Locations where crops suffers from ozone damage: Goseong, Masan, Milyang, Jinju, Geochang and Hadong, etc.
    • - Result of diagnosis: Ozone damage by high temperature as high as 34°C in maximum cell division period
    • - Corrective measure: use of potassium, water filtering, spraying the chemical to prevent the rice blast disease
    • - Recover from damage: the damaged leaves aged at 25 days after occurrence and then they have completely recovered at 45 days after it
