Performance

1.Gerbera

  • Developing new cultivars (318 mating combinations under cultivation
  • 6 cultivars registered including Saebom and Songsongi

2. Phalaenopsis

  • Developed a new production system for the seedbed of Phalaenopsis hybrids; Patent pending, Technology transfer to two farmers in Jinju and Gimhae
  • Collecting good genetic sources of more than 120 species including 9 aromatic orchids
  • Cross breeding of more than 20 combinations a year with a good hybrid selection since 2001
  • Research funds acquired : 340 million won (2000 to 2004)

3. Rose

  • Studies on nutrient absorption properties in rose hydroponics. Nutrient solution ratio of NO3-: NH4+ (30:70) resulted in 25% increase to
  • 162,547 flowers/10a in 16 species including HT roses.. Ratio of 2.0 in calcium and potassium increased by 25% to 78,100 flowers/10a in 11 HP species

Future plan

  • New species development; Gerbera, Rose, Phalaenopsis, Easter Lily
  • Development of Gypsophila paniculate varieties to be well adapted to the southern region even in winter time.
  • Research on rose nutricultures and nutrient uptakes and the recyling of waste rockwool
  • Buildup of study foundation on Phalaenopsis and Gerbera
